Do you have teeth with significant injury or decay? If so, our dentists in Plymouth, Ann Arbor, MI, may recommend getting dental crowns. A dental crown is a type of restoration that fits over your tooth like a cap. This restores the tooth to its full strength, function, and appearance so you can smile with confidence.
Here’s what you need to know about the dental crown procedure at Morse Dental Group.
Am I a Candidate for a Dental Crown?
You may be a candidate for a dental crown if you have a tooth that’s badly damaged or decayed. Under these circumstances, our dentists may recommend a crown to restore your tooth and prevent the decay or injury from spreading. We may also use porcelain crowns to anchor bridges, cover dental implants, or restore teeth after root canals.
What Can I Expect During the Crown Procedure?
The dental crown procedure takes two trips to our office. During your first appointment, we’ll file down and shape the tooth so it’s ready to receive a crown. We’ll then take dental impressions to send to the lab that will be making your crown. Next, we’ll place a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your next appointment with us.
When you return to our office, your permanent dental crown will be ready. One of our dentists will replace the temporary crown with the permanent one and cement it in place. They’ll also check your bite with the new crown to ensure it has a comfortable and natural fit.
